Only got to two episodes this week, so I doubt there will be any chance of me reviewing all episodes before the third season debuts later this year.
But it beats what I thought would be my original plan of reviewing one episode per week -- with any luck, I'll have more weeks in which I'll be able to review multiple episodes.
For those who have enjoyed the reviews so far and would like to learn more about the series, may I suggest visiting the Young Justice Wiki.
Now let's get to this week's episodes.
Episode 5: Schooled
The plot: Superboy breaks away from The Team after a mission to safely transport the parts of the android Amazo goes awry.
Key elements: Superboy's wish for Superman to serve as his mentor, Black Canary's role in training The Team, the introduction of Professor Ivo.
Favorite quote: From Professor Ivo: "Have you met by Mobile Optimal Neural Quotient Infiltrators?" (Superboy destroys several.) "Oh, and after all the trouble I went to finding an acronym for MONQI."
Episode thoughts: The primary focus of the episode is Superboy learning to deal with his anger issues, stemming mostly from Superman's reluctance to associate with him. Superboy learns quickly that having super strength doesn't mean a fight is in his favor, not only through his first training lesson with Black Canary, but his initial encounter with Professor Ivo and Amazo. I also liked how the episodes touches upon Batman noticing Superman being uncomfortable around Superboy, but that the Man of Steel needs to realize the importance of serving as a role model.
Episode 6: Infiltrator
The plot: New team member Artemis must figure out how to fit in as The Team protects Dr. Serling Roquette from the League of Shadows.
Key elements: The introduction of Artemis, initial conflict between Artemis and Kid Flash, the introduction of Cheshire and the League of Shadows, Speedy becomes Red Arrow.
Favorite quote: This conversation between Aqualad, Artemis and Kid Flash over the telepathic link:
Aqualad: Stop it, both of you.
Artemis and Kid Flash: What?
Aqualad: I can hear you glaring.
Episode thoughts: Artemis' introduction to the team is abrupt and causes tension, particularly between her and Kid Flash, who blames Artemis for Red Arrow's decision to be done with his mission of rescuing Dr. Serling Roquette and leaving The Team behind. The seeds are planted regarding Artemis' background but viewers are left guessing as to who she really is, even as she proves herself worthy of being part of The Team. The League of Shadows, of course, is a variant on the League of Assassins, and their involvement clues viewers as to who one of the leaders of The Light must be.
